May Sketch Challenges | One More Time

Hi Lily Bee fans!  Christine here, along with Patricia, showing you another take on our monthly layout and card sketch challenges!  You can see the original May layout sketch post here, and the card sketch post here.  Since our focus this week is on chipboard embellishments, Patricia and I have created projects that feature Liy Bee chipboard stickers.  If you have not yet played along with this month's sketch challenges, you still have time to link up!

Patricia says, "I used the sketch by turning it and cutting a piece of cardstock to mask and mist squares onto the background.  Then I cut smaller squares from pattern paper to pop dot over them.  I wanted to be able to embellish around the squares with the chipboard pieces.  So I added pieces under the photo, pointing to the photo, and up towards the top of the misted squares.  All leading your eye back down to the photo.  I made this piece a little artsy because of our high school jazz band, and the chipboard word pieces fit perfectly for the theme."

 

I absolutely adore Patricia's interpretation of the layout sketch, and all the details she included!

 

Here is our May card sketch again.

 

My friend's birthday was this past week, so I used the sketch to make her a birthday card!

Supplies:  Pinwheel Collection (Lemonade Stand paper, Picnic Basket paper, Flower Box paper, 6x6 Tiny Tablet paper pad, Chipboard Stickers, Embellishment Bundle, Label Stickers, Letter Stickers)

 

My interpretation of the card sketch was pretty straight-forward.  Instead of two circle embellishments on top, I used a bigger flower chipboard sticker to anchor the scallop strip across the top. 

 

The sentiment strip on the bottom left is anchored by a stack of chipboard embellishments, including a button tied up with twine.

May Card Sketch Challenge

Happy Tuesday!  Today I am celebrating how awesome the new Embellishment Bundles are for scrapbooking cards.  This celebration involves a new challenge for the month of May...the card sketch.

Here is the card sketch I created!

Here is my card!  I relied on the Pinwheel collection for its bright color palatte and playful sayings.

The Embellisment Bundle has buttons, brads, badges and twine. I incorporated the twine by wrapping it around the top of my card, creating a clothesline for the banners.  The button at the end helped me tie the clothesline up!

Moms & Mommihood | Sketch Challenge

Happy Tuesday Lily Bee friends and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LILY BEE DESIGN OWNER & DESIGNER, KRISTEN! We're wishing you a fabulous day, spoiled by your precious boys!

Adrienne, Leslie, and I  are excited to share a new sketch with you this week and show you how we used it for our layouts incorporating this week's theme: Moms & Mommihood!

This is the sketch we used:

First up, here's what Adrienne had to say about her layout:  "I was really inspired by Wendy's sketch and how the photos took center stage.  I swapped out one of the photo spots for an embellished square that directs the eye towards my journaling.  I cut out the "details" arrow from the Flip Flops patterned paper and popped it up with some foam adhesive to give it some extra dimension.  I also used a variety of letter stickers for my long title to give it some color and I added a few pops of black throughout my page to help bring it all together."

Next up, Leslie!  Here's what Leslie said about her layout:  "-first up, I just wanted to say a little bit about why these pictures of my  great niece, Presley mean the world to me. If you’ll notice in my journaling, I  tell a short story about my title, what this sweet girl means to me & how her mom, at the tender age of 19 years old – fought and WON the  courageous battle of stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma. After her intense treatment of  chemo & radiation, she was told she could never have children.  But as you  can see – she was blessed. She was blessed which made us ALL blessed. Especially  me. Aunt “Lala”   about the sketch - I changed up the sketch a bit by adding another  layer of squares & using 3 photos with 3 patterned papers. I had A LOT to  journal about this layout so I made specific room to the left to tell my  story."

I always have a hard time sticking to a sketch exactly...even when they are my own sketches!  This one also took on a life of it's own once I got started, but I think that's okay - sketches aren't set in stone, it's just a matter of finding a starting point!  Here are a few of the details:

Trendspotting | Sketch Challenge

 

Hello, everyone!  Wendy and I are here today with a sketch challenge for you using this week's theme, Trendspotting.  The nautical theme is hot in the trendy world right now and here's a look at how we incorporated it into our layouts...

I created this sketch so multiple photos could be used and also because I wanted to incorporate some circles into my layout because for some reason or another, I tend not to use them enough in my creations.

 I absolutely adore Wendy's take on the sketch and how she interpreted the large circle element with stitching!  Wendy said, "It was a fun sketch to work with!  I decided to make the circle portion a bit more subtle so I added circle stitching around the photo collage with white thread.  The nautical theme is a bit subtle as well, but it's there!  I cut three anchor shapes with my Silhouette Cameo and placed them around the layout to form a visual triangle.  Of course the overall theme of my layout is completely nautical, as the photos of Meagan were all taken on our boat :)

I was a bit less subtle with the circle element on my layout.  I cut out a large circle in the black and white chevron patterned paper from the Sweet Shoppe collection.  I stitched along the outside edge of it using white thread to give it a more "handmade" feel.  

I also decided to swap out one of the photo spots in the collage for a place to hold my journaling.  I created anchors with my Silhoette Cameo and used both the postitive and negative space when I placed them on my page.  I liked using the anchors to incorporate the nautical theme onto my page, even though my photos were from Easter :)

Negative Space | Sketch Challenge

Hello, Everyone!  Leslie and I are here today with another sketch challenge for you using our theme for the week, Negative Space.

The sketch is bold, but can be interpreted so many ways.  Instead of triangles, use hearts or circles or another shape.  Repeating patterns are always a great element to add to your design.

I absolutely love how Leslie changed the triangle shape and then brought it all the way around to point to her photo.  This is what Leslie has to say about her gorgeous project, "I focused on the arrows from the sketch and used them as my “base” pointing to my photo. I hand cut them and only added adhesive in the middle so they can stand up a little.  I finished it off by adding my title and lots of fun embellishments that represent my favorite go to shoes right now."

I decided to stay with the triangles, but made them smaller.  Using the sketch as inspiration, helped me make the rest of the layout fall into place adding my own touches.

I turned the cut pattern paper over to mask the area where I wanted to add some stamping.  I was going to use the same pattern paper to pop dot over the negative space, but decided on the Port pattern paper for more color.

Using my Silhouette, I cut out a card with a leaf pattern to tuck behind the picture.
The Flip Flop pattern paper inspired me to mask and ink the speech bubbles.

Inspiration Challenge

This week we are sharing our sources of inspiration!  Many times I need to browse my Pinterest boards for sparks of inspiration.  I often pin images of graphic art or photographs of wedding decor as it really gets ideas flowing.  For this week's challenge, I was inspired by a simple, yet beautiful photo.  I hope you will be too!

Check out this cute image below.  The idea is that you stitch a heart around the place you visited. 

I decided to replicate this look on my layout and use it as a springboard.  The idea of marking a particular spot on a map got me thinking about locations and the reasons I travel.  The map in the Destination collection doesn't include the United States, but I didn't let that stop me!  I decided to scrap about one of my favorite hometown restaurants, Duffy's, which has an Irish theme.  I knew I could mark the spot at Ireland!

I took the travel theme to other parts of the page like the faux road along the top.

The real focus is on the map though!  It was easy to stitch the heart using a backstitch and sewing needle!!

Sketch Challenge

Spring is here!  Diana, Wendy, and I have Spring / Easter layouts inspired by this week's sketch.  I kept the sketch simple.  I made it using the app called Skitch, and lately have been doodling quick sketches for layouts on this app to do later.  It gives me a great jump start.

I love how Diana interpreted the sketch with the one large photo and title.  Just beautiful.  
Diana loves the blues, yellows, and greens in the Sweet Shoppe and Pinwheel collection, especially for Spring layouts.
The patterns and colors work so well for a happy page to celebrate the start of Spring.

For my layout, I kept the three photos with the idea of using photos of new things we have have gotten to start the season.

I fussy cut and layered the cartwheel paper for the circles and added more stitched circles.  

I love the black chevron paper and flair from the Sweet Shoppe collection.  It adds texture but my Spring photos also had black in the them, and it helped ground the entire layout.

Wendy had this to say about her layout:

Just looking at these Easter morning photos doesn’t even begin to tell the story of our family’s Easter last year.  The kids look healthy and strong and happy, don’t they?  I guess that’s what the promise of sugary treats will do to a kid!  Unfortunately, each of these kiddos was so so sick all of Easter weekend.  The flu visited our home and didn’t want to leave – it was not a fun weekend (or following week, which just happened to be spring break).  

Obviously, she didn’t want the layout to focus on how everyone was ill…instead she created a fun layout with non-traditional Easter colors.  

The journaling and tale of the never-ending stomach flu will be safely tucked behind the large photo on the bottom of the layout.

Designer's Choice Challenge | Lots Of Photos

Hello everyone! Welcome to another edition of Designer's Challenge Tuesday!

While our focus this week is on the FUN new Pinwheel Collection, I want to
challenge you to try something. Recently, both of my kids were home from college
at the same time & what's better while they're here than a fun photo shoot?!

I took so many great photo's of them that I know I'll have plenty to scrap for
a while to come. But on this project - I knew I wanted to use a few of my favorites
from the shoot. So to describe my "Lucky Charms" - I picked two single photo's & four
of the both of them together , printed them in the same color tone (black & white)
in wallet size & used them on this layout:

Supplies Used:  Pinwheel (Lemonade Stand Paper, Sprinklers Paper, Lime Rickey Paper, Jump Rope Paper, Chit Chat Stickers, Embellishment Bundle), Persnickity (ABC Cardstock Stickers)

After printing & trimming - I kept the photo's in a "photo strip" sequence and placed them
in the center of my project. It keeps the focus directly on all six of my photo's.



I used the FUN new Pinwheel line as my background & as my shamrocks.
I also was able to use the brand new embellishments from Pinwheel.
Aren't they FUN! Brads, flair, buttons - oh my. So much fun!

This layout was alot of fun. I adore my lucky charms & I'm so glad I was
able to share with you today.  Now it's YOUR turn to take on this challenge &

Designer's Choice Challenge | Sketch

Welcome to another Designer's Choice Challenge on Tuesday! Today, I'm sharing a sketch that will have you going round and round, because it features one of my favorite design elements -  circles! I just love the dynamic energy this shape can add to a page.

The sketch is based on my Pretty in Pink layout, which uses lots of the new Sweet Shoppe collection from Lily Bee. We'll be highlighting projects using this collection all week, so be sure and check out the blog daily!  I cut several of the patterned papers into various sized circles, mixing in circles of vellum to soften the look.

I also added a few of the newest Lily Bee products - embellishments! The metal flair buttons are my favorite for adding shine and dimension to a page.

Challenge Tuesday: Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Morning Lily Bee fans! Nicole here today to share a layout made with the new Destination line and issue you a challenge!

This week we are celebrating the new Destination collection by Lily Bee on the blog - and so keeping "destination" in mind, the challenge this week is to create a layout using any form of transportation!

Supplies used: Destination (6x6 Tiny Tablet, Atlas Paper, Passport Paper, Embellishment bundle, Chipboard stickers, ) Persnickety (clear stamps), Christmas Cheer (ABC stickers, Journaling cards),  Autumn Spice (clear stamps), Handmade (ABC stickers)

I decided that my take on the transportation theme would be a hot air balloon - and it was super easy to create, with the help of my Cameo. I cut 5 geotag shapes and then folded them in half and adhered them back to back to create the hot air balloon shape.

I added one of the new pennant banner chipboard shapes, up-side down, to create the basket of the balloon.

I then paper pierced a quick sun out of a punched circle from the tiny tablet and some stitched sun-rays over top of a journaling card:

I really love the vibrant red polka dot pattern in the Destination collection to off-set all that yummy woodgrain in the collection and knew that it would be great to create the parts of my title around the page:

Lily Bee Design Birthday Blog Hop Day 1

Four years ago, Kristen launched Lily Bee Design, went to her first CHA and the rest is HISTORY! We are so thankful for our customers and fans, who continue to support us, as well as our amazing design team who inspires us each day with their amazing talent. 

We are celebrating our 4^th birthday this week with daily blog hops and we’re giving YOU the chance to win the gifts! That’s right, each day will be a different hop with more chances to win! 

Since it's "Challenge Tuesday" it only seems appropriate to kick off today's blog hop with a sketch challenge. Nicole created this fabulous sketch and we'd love to see your layouts that are inspired by this sketch.

Challenge Tuesday : Scrapping The Everyday

Good morning, Lily Bee fans! Meilssa here with a layout and a scrapping challenge for you today!

All week the design team is focusing on scrapbooking daily routines here on the blog, but "routine" doesn't have to just mean certain things done at certain times or on certain days- it can also be something that's a routine occurence around your home. 

Supplies: Persnickety (Finicky, Huffy, Ritzy, Index Journal Cards); Christmas Cheer (6x6 Tiny Tablet, ABC Cardstock Stickers)

As I was flipping through my photo library, I found these two photos of my husband reading in our living room with one of the cats sitting nearby (or on him- and this is the guy who says he doesn't like cats- ha!). These pictures were taken only four days apart, and I probably have a dozen more similar to them on my computer- this is something that happens all the time at our house!

There are lots of other daily occurences like this that I could scrapbook- my husband's daily cups of coffee and tea, going for a run through the neighborhood, taking a trip to the gym- so many things that we do on an almost daily basis and might not even think about, but things that still may change over the years (for instance, our kitty in the top photo has since passed away). Documenting these things in your scrapbook is a great way to capture snippets of daily life that will be fun to look back in in the years to come.

Can you guess what my challenge is for you today? It's to scrap something from your everyday life! You can do this on a layout, in a mini book, or even on a Project Life layout- it's up to you!

Designer's Choice | Sketch Challenge

Good Morning!

Leslie and I (Melissa M.) are here today to share a new Designer's Sketch Challenge with you! Since the theme of the week is L-O-V-E, the sketch has lots o' hearts on it! However, feel free to interpret those with whatever shape you like! Stars, circles, asterisks...the sky is the limit!

I decided to take the heart elements from the sketch and make them a “waterfall” per se, to bounce off bold feel of the title (cut from my Silhouette Cameo). I then added a few extra hearts (all of them are also cut from with my Silhouette Cameo) to the top right of my project for balance.

Challenge Tuesday- Mixing the Old with the New

Good morning!

It's Becky Williams here with Nicole Nowosad today for another Challenge on Tuesday. 

To go along with our theme this week of mixing old and new products we have a fun challenge for you- create a project using at least 10 pieces of patterned paper mixing the old with the new. 

How does that sound? 

Nicole rose to the challenge beautifully!

Here is her layout:

Nicole said, "The new 6x6 tiny tablets make it really easy to get more than 10 papers on my page. I just cut each paper in half and used them as strips on my page, hiding the edges that lined up with photos, a journal card &/or a die cut tag. I love how all the new lines go together so easily and combine with the releases from last CHA as well!"

I really like how Nicole meshed the old and new collections together so well.

And now for my take on the challenge:

I also used strips of paper to add more variety to my page, only I did it on a smaller scale. I cut a piece of cardstock the same height as my photo and cut random widths of paper and adhered them to the cardstock. I added more patterns by using diecuts and smaller strips of paper at the top and bottom of the page. 

I cut the "I {heart} this" from one of the index journaling cards and layered a couple of the cards for my journaling. There are lots of ways that you can include 10+ pieces of patterned paper without adding a lot of extra bulk. 

Supplies: Sweet Shoppe (Marshmellow), Persnickety (Finicky, Fussy, Index Journaling Cards), Pinwheel (Flip-Flops, Sprinklers, Ice Cream Truck), Buttercup (Queen Bee), Handmade (Thimble), Double-Dutch (Marmalade), Lovely (Whimsy), Christmas Cheer (ABC Stickers).
