Fatherhood | Project Life Friday

Hello, Lily Bee fans!!  Patricia here with you today to finish our week of celebration Dad's and Fatherhood with Project Life.

My approach with Project Life is to do a summary of the week.  I still wanted to have a summary of what happened during the week, but this assignment pushed me to focus on getting photos that captured the relationship between my daughter and her Dad.  I have never approached Project Life this way.  It was a nice change and felt like it made it even more personal.

This week was also Memorial Day, so the color scheme really started there.  I used my Silhouette to cut files and the sketch pens to write out some journaling.  

I used a lot of primary colors for this spread with touches of brown, grey, and black...perfect for Memorial Day, summer, and especially for celebrating Dad.  

I pulled out the Autumn Spice stamps too for the "Memories," arrows, and "happy," and the "Hi There."  Love how just that little bit of stamping can add so much.

The label, letter, chit chat, and circle and tabs stickers really added nice touches to this week's spread and made it even more personal.

Cards on Wednesday | More Chipboard Stickers inspiration

We hope you have been enjoying this weeks focus on the new Lily Bee Chipboard Embellishments!

Today, Summer and I are here to share a few different takes on using the chipboard embellishments to create both some clean and simple and more intricate cards.

Summer always amaze me at how has the ability to create simple and gorgeous projects and these cards are no exception!

 

Although Summer kept her basic designs clean and simple, she added a lot of texture just by using different pieces of the chipboard embellishments.

Supplies: Destination (Letter & Chipboard Stickers, Embellishment Bundle and 6x6 Tiny Tablet) 

It's as easy as layering some of the chipboard pieces over patterned paper to create a simple but effective card! She adds more texture by adding a little bakers twine in the mix!

Next, she created this cute card by lining up

Again, I love how she has added just a little twine to the chipboard to create layers of texture!

I took a slightly different approach to my cards. For this card, I used the chipboard to create a window flower box:

Layering the chipboard over each other adds a lot of height and chunkiness to your card!

Next, I create this card by just adding in some of the chipboard pennant shapes to the quilted background I made from some scraps of a tiny tablet pad:

My last card was pretty simple - I just added the chipboard buttons to fill in some space from the label sticker!

Focus On Monday | Brad, Badge, Button and Baker's Bundle

Good morning Lily Bee fans! This week, our designers are going to feature one of our new products from winter 2013 CHA - the new Embellishment Bundle!

Each of Lily Bee's new collections - Sweet Shoppe, Pinwheel and Destination - have their own Embellishment bundle - brad, badges, buttons and baker's twine!

  

There are a lot of options all packed into one with this fun new embellishment set. Each of the three elements work really well together on a page - and each collection does too!

The fabric brads are one of my favorites - they add such a nice texture to the page!

Each of the 3 embellishments are just the right size for layering - instead of adding a punched circle - add a button, brad or badge! The baker's twine is nice and sturdy too and can easily be threaded through the buttons.

Focus On | Trendspotting

Hello Lily Bee friends & welcome to a brand new week here on the Lily Bee blog!  I'm Wendy Sue and this is my first time hosting on the blog - I'm excited to introduce this week's theme - Trendspotting!  Our team has been busily tracking down the latest trends and working on fun projects to share with you throughout the week.  Today, Nicole and I are teaming up to share a couple of trend-infused layouts with you!

First up, here's Nicole's gorgeous layout:

I’m not gonna lie - I spend way too much of my time on Pinterest.   When looking for inspiration for this project, a few things popped out at me -- neutral p allette pages, metallics &/or ombre designs. I love the look of  each, so why not combine them into one!

I gathered some of my favorite Lily Bee  papers, using the 6x6 Tiny Tablets, and punched some circles in varying degrees  of color and them layered them onto cardstock. I added in the metallics through  stitching and some sequins from my stash and voila! the page was done !

I've been loving all of the unique takes on projects using the triangle trend that is so popular right now!  I decided to incorporate a slew of triangles onto a layout and this is the outcome:

I didn't start out with much of a plan - just started cutting triangles and arranging them on the background until I came up with a pattern I liked. 

I also added some circle elements just for fun (you might notice they are arranged in a "visual triangle" which is another fun triangular design element!)

I added some word stickers with little staples, and even added machine stitching to some of my triangles.

I completed my layout by adding a photo strip and a bit of hand journaling.

Outside your window | Challenge

Good morning Lily Bee fans!! Becky Williams and I are here today to share with you a little challenge. This week on the Lily Bee blog, we are exploring what is outside the window! 

We were challenged to scrap 4 photos about "things" out our window - and no PEOPLE !

For a lot of people, the spring weather has not been co-operating.... Becky shares this pretty page today:

We'd been enjoying kind of a crazy Spring so far but loved the warmer weather until it decided to snow! Yep, snow in Texas in April. I'd just taken pictures of the flowers in our yard, signs of Spring, and then we got the snow- thankfully the flowers survived. I mostly take pictures of my family so this challenge was a nice change of pace for me and helped me to take a closer look at the beautiful things around me, even in the snow. 

I love how Becky has layered stickers and her fussy cut paper pieces!

Take a look at those pretty butterflies too! Makes me hopeful for spring for sure!

Well, up here in Canada, the weather is bad. In fact, as I type this, there is snow falling again. Truth be told, the only thing you would see out my window today is snow! So, I pulled out some photos from last summer for this challenge:

Although I scrapped about summer, I used a lot of fun, spring color from both the Pinwheel and Sweet Shoppe collections. The Lemon Drop paper is perfect for large sunbeams, which I detailed with some gold metallic thread:

The Pinwheel collection has a lot of great colors in it for spring - and those hexagon piechart shapes are perfect!

You can see that the chipboard embellishments add just the right amount of texture to your page ! I love the florals in the Pinwheel collection.

Focus on Monday: Celebrating Four Years of Lily Bee!

Good morning, everyone! And welcome to a very special week here on the blog as Lily Bee celebrates its fourth birthday! All week long we'll be throwing a party with lots of inspiration, ideas, and prizes! The festivities officially kick off tomorrow, and today I'm here to share a little bit of early celebration with you.

All of the design team's projects this week will focus on some sort of celebration, and I chose to make a layout using photos from my husband's birthday dinner last year. I do have more photos from this day to scrap, but I had Lily Bee's Persnickety and Autumn Spice collections out on my desk as I was looking for photos, and the blues, yellows, and warm tones of the papers worked perfectly with these photos of his celebratory meal.

Cards on Wednesday | Simple Stripes

This week on the Lily Bee blog, our focus is on daily routines. And since one of my resolutions was to send more "real" mail (i.e., "snail mail") making simple cards is something I like to slip into my daily routine every now and then. I rarely have more than 10-15 minutes to create a card, so I like to keep it easy, but I also want the recipient to get something with a special handmade touch.

With that in mind, I made this card and matching tag, using thin strips of patterned paper from the new Sweet Shoppe and Pinwheel lines to create a striped pattern:

Lily Bee Supplies:  Sweet Shoppe (Lemon Drop paper); Pinwheel (Cartwheels, Lime RIckey, Flip Flops papers); Autumn Spice (Clear Stamps); Handmade (Clear Stamps).

The happy colors and patterns in the new lines make it a breeze to select a few to adorn a card. I cut five papers into thin strips and adhered them diagonally across my card and tag, adding zig zag stitching between the strips.

For the simple sentiment, I used the circle from the Handmade Clear Stamps and the word "hi" from the Autumn Spice Clear Stamps with gray ink. A few tiny rhinestones finish off this card that would be perfect for sending some happy mail.

On the tag, I used the same circle outline stamp with the word "Happy" from the Autumn Spice Clear Stamp set. I added the word "be" with orange pen and few more rhinestones. Tucked inside a card or package, this tag would brighten up someone's day.

Shadow Box Frame

Hello there.  It's Ursula here today to show you a little shadow box frame project I created to highlight a photo I just love of my husband and I. We danced together at our daughter's wedding 2 years ago. Somehow, I missed this photo before. I love the look on my husband's face as I whispered in his ear. I can't recall now what I may have told him, but I do know that I had to do something special with it. 

I really feel like the image expresses how we feel about each other, even after 21 years together.

The look I wanted to create was reminiscent of a graduated hall.  I saw this photo that inspired me to try to accomplish the layered look I ended up with.  In order to acheive it, I had to cut larger and larger windows in full sheets of paper.  I then backed each sheet with long strips of dimensional foam tape to lift each layer from the next.

While relatively simple, it did take a bit of time to get all of the sizes correct but I love the finished result.

I added some wood veneer pieces to incorporate different textures.  I also did one round of the layers using a shiny 'subway' patterned tape I have to create added texture. Silhouette helped me create a beautiful and classic title.

The end result produces a page that could never be used in an album as it's quite thick (at least 1/2 inch, but it is perfect for a shadow box.

Good morning! Nicole here today to share with you a page all about Love on this Valentine's Day!

I really wanted to use a lot of my old Lily Bee favorite papers, along with some of my new favorites to create this page of my daughter:

I used the deep woodgrain paper from the Autumn Spice collection as my background, along with a scrap of my Handmade collection. I then cut a few fun circle shapes with my Cameo and backed them with some cute patterns from the Sweet Shoppe, Destination 6x6 tiny tablets:

The bokeh papers in the Sweet Shoppe collection are some of my new faves!!!

I added in a paper from the Christmas Cheer collection by punching out the numbers and leaving the negative space behind and layered some scraps of my favorite papers in behind them:

Handmade Love

Hi all!  Andrea and I will be sharing some cards with you that are sure to brighten the day of someone you love!  

First, these adorable creations by Andrea.  I am consistently blown away with her one of a kind ideas and designs.  Get ready to swoon!

Let's look at each one!  I love the unique shape and the stunning banner on this uber cute card!

Supplies:  Persnickety (clear stamps, Huffy - paper, ABC cardstock stickers), Double Dutch (bags of bits), Autumn Spice (Brown Sugar - paper, clear stamps)

Andrea says: Valentine's Day, in our house, is all about the handmade. These cards are handmade from the hand cut shaped card to the embellishments that top them. To create a shaped card, begin with a folded piece of cardstock.  Draw or begin cutting the shape you want to create, making sure that you leave part of the folded edge intact.  Cut paper/cardstock for the front of the card and stamp, embellish and build your card in your creative way. 

Here is a second card that is sure to bring cheer to anyone!

Super cute!

I decided to make two very different cards that incorporate the same major design elements, the word "today", index journal cards and hearts.  It is cool to see how dramatically the same ideas look when you dress them differently.

First, I made this monochromatic card using mostly pinks.

Supplies:  Persnickety:  (Paper:  Fussy, 6X6 Tiny Tablet, Index Journal Card, Mixed Cardstock sticker)

I simply clustered the Today sticker, circle sticker and punched hearts over an index journal card.  Easy, yet sweet and feminine.

For my second take, I went with the primary colors featured in Pinwheel along with the fabulous heart bokeh paper from Destinations.

Supplies:  Pinwheel (Paper:  Cherry Blossom, Apricot Tree, Flip Flops; Chit Chat Stickers; Circle and Tags sticker), Destinations  (Paper:  Bon Voyage); Persnickety (Index Journal Card)

This card is the polar opposite of soft with its bright oranges and reds.  I again incorporated a piece of an index journal card, this time placing it along the top.  I like the unique scallop it give at the bottom of it.  I then layered several stickers and chipboard pieces to convey my sentiments.

Project Life on Friday

Good Morning! I (Melissa M.) am  here today to share my project life album using some Lily Bee Design supplies!

Lily Bee Supplies: Persnickety (6x6 Tiny Tablet, ABC Stickers, Mixed Stickers), Christmas Cheer (Mixed Stickers), Autumn Spice (Mixed Stickers). 

So far, I have stayed caught up this year with my Project Life album. I have taken a slightly different approach this year in keeping my weeks caught up. I have worked on it every two weeks. I upload my photos every week to the computer and edit and save them. At the end of the two weeks, I also load all my iPhone photos onto the computer so I can set them up in a new photoshop file to get them printed. Then, I upload all photos to get developed and complete the two weeks in one sitting. It generally takes me to one and a half to two hours and I will be done! So far, this process has worked great and I hope I will be able to keep it up through out the year!

I put my 6x6 Tiny Tablet from the Persnickety collection to good use on this week's spread. It is super easy to use those 6x6 sheets of paper to make quick 3x4 cards or even 4x6 cards. I cut down one to 4x6 and stitched the phrase "the good life" onto it and popped it in the protector. Quick & easy!

On this half of the week, I cut down the 6x6 sheets to 3x4 (I was able to get two cards from each sheet) and used them to staple my iPhone pictures too. I further embellished them with stickers and wood veneer pieces. I take a very easy approach to Project Life - I do not type out my journaling or use a lot of stitching. My tiny attacher has become my best friend for this project :-)

Cards on Wednesday | Mix it Up

Good monring crafters! Summer here with 3 cards showing off how easy it is to mix up the new and older Lily Bee lines all on one project.I decided it would be fun to create 3 Valentine cards using the same set of products.

The set of products I chose to work with are featured below. These products include a sheet from the brand new Pinwheel Collection called Ice Cream Truck, a sheet of Charcoal from the Victoria Park, Clear Stamps from Autumn Spice (excuse the photo below it appears my stamps were in the wrong packaging) and the ABC Sticker from Handmade.

Each one of my cards took on a personality of it's own. While each card uses all of the same products they all look a little different. I admit the heart stamp was my base inspiration for my cards I knew I wanted to stamp and cut images to be used on cards but it wasn't until I started playing that the rest fell into place.

Challenge Tuesday- Mixing the Old with the New

Good morning!

It's Becky Williams here with Nicole Nowosad today for another Challenge on Tuesday. 

To go along with our theme this week of mixing old and new products we have a fun challenge for you- create a project using at least 10 pieces of patterned paper mixing the old with the new. 

How does that sound? 

Nicole rose to the challenge beautifully!

Here is her layout:

Nicole said, "The new 6x6 tiny tablets make it really easy to get more than 10 papers on my page. I just cut each paper in half and used them as strips on my page, hiding the edges that lined up with photos, a journal card &/or a die cut tag. I love how all the new lines go together so easily and combine with the releases from last CHA as well!"

And now for my take on the challenge:

I also used strips of paper to add more variety to my page, only I did it on a smaller scale. I cut a piece of cardstock the same height as my photo and cut random widths of paper and adhered them to the cardstock. I added more patterns by using diecuts and smaller strips of paper at the top and bottom of the page. 

I cut the "I {heart} this" from one of the index journaling cards and layered a couple of the cards for my journaling. There are lots of ways that you can include 10+ pieces of patterned paper without adding a lot of extra bulk.

It's All About Love!

Hi everyone! Leslie here today with a big question. Are you ready for Valentine's day?
Love is definitely in the air! It's already displayed in stores & is all around.
To celebrate, we're sharing a whole lotta love here all week on the Lily Bee Design blog.

Today Nicole and I are sharing a couple of "love" layouts with all of you.

Nicole is up first with a layout of love about her oldest son:

"Along with some of my favorite photos of my oldest son, I wanted to use
some of my new and old Lilybee favorite products! I misted the Stationary paper
with some scraps from a Cameo cut and then let Pinwheel be my guide! I added in
a Lily Bee journaling card and some of those always perfect mini ABC stickers. I
couldn’t resist adding in a couple small piecharts from the 6x6 tiny tablet
too!"

to recreate the heart in the center, simply fold a 12x12 sheet of cardstock in half & cut in a
half heart shape. Open the fold to your heart. Then take strips of different patterned papers
and place diagonally (the strips don't have to be perfect sizes. I cut some thinner than others.)
on your heart, then trim the edges.

By making my photo stand out more - I turned it black and white and placed on the right side
of my heart by using 3D adhesive.  I wanted it to have a little more dimension.

I also used the letter stickers as part of my journaling along the left side of my heart

Do you have Valentine's Day on your mind?  There is something about a craft table spilling over with pink and red this time of year that put a smile on my face.  Today Leslie and I are sharing a few cards that embrace the theme of love.

First up, Leslie created two cards full of beautiful layers and a great way to use Lily Bee's cardstock stickers.

To create the heart embellishment she stacked punched hearts, folding and gluing each one down the center. Once they dried, she fanned them out to add dimension. Using the same color, yet different patterns, really sets off the effect.

Leslie's second card is just as amazing.  She loves hearts and finds ways to use them. For these “love” cards, she wanted to use hearts and colors you wouldn’t always see on a “Valentine” card.  So from little to big, red to multi-colored she incorporated hearts in such a creative way.

Supplies: Pinwheel (Cartwheels Paper, Lime Rickey Paper),  Persnickity (Clear Stamps, Index Journaling Cards, Mixed Stickers, 6x6 Tiny Tablet), Autumn Spice (ABC Stickers)

To create the heart shape on this card, simply freehand cut from paper and cover in strips of Lily Bee paper from a variety of collections.  As I was flipping through papers I pulled out paper that had pink in it.  Once the heart is stitched, I backed it with cardstock and hand cut a scallop border around it.  Inked the edges a bit to allow it to stand out and backed with foam adhesive.  Stamp a few pennants, hearts and doilies and assembled to create a banner using pink wire.

This card also features hand cut elements in creating the flower stem, leaves and petals.  By cutting circle shapes in a variety of sizes, fold each petal four times, ink each crease light to bring out each fold and adhere layers using foam adhesive and/or craft glue.  Use the same technique to create the leaves.
