Good morning, Lily Bee fans. Melissa here with a special challenge for you today.
September 11th has been observed as Patriot Day in the United States ever since the resolution declaring the day of remembrance was signed into law just a few months after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001. It's a day that changed the lives of every American, and each year on the anniversary we mourn those who were killed and those who have given their lives to protect us in the years since.
I know that many Lily Bee fans live outside the US, and I wanted to create a challenge that would honor this day while also not excluding anyone. In remembrance of today, I want to challenge you all to create a layout using patriotic colors. In the US that means to create a layout using red, white, and blue, and those who live in other countries can use the colors that are appropriate for you. The layout (or any project- mini albums and cards are perfectly fine) doesn't have to have a patriotic theme (though Amy Heller and I have both used one in our projects), it just needs to use the colors.
Here's how Amy Heller responded to the challenge:
"When I was faced with Melissa's challenge to create a patriotic-themed project, especially given the gravity of the date that our post is on, I decided to take the route of patriotic cards. I drew from the memory of September 11, 2001 and what that day meant. It was an incredibly complex time for everyone. I remember how our country came together to push on in the height of our deepest sadness and uncertainty. It definitely felt like each day we just needed to "keep calm and carry on" with life. We also experienced the greatest solidarity as a country I've experienced in my lifetime. It certainly was a period in my life in which I will never forget."
Supplies Used: Autumn Spice (Ginger Paper), Double Dutch (6x6 Paper Pad, ABC Stickers), Homemade (Index Journaling Cards)
Supplies Used: Autumn Spice (Cinnamon Paper), Persnickety (Uppity Paper, Finicky Paper) Double Dutch (Index Journaling Cards), Buttercup (6x6 Paper Pad)
I decided to make a layout for this project, using images of the American flag as my subject. I remember in the days and weeks after the 9/11 attacks how prominent and prolific the flag became- there were literally American flags everywhere- a symbol that our country remained strong and united.
